Around 1990, I wrote and recorded a set of songs built around sampled sounds. I picked subjects that were interesting to me--events from the sixties, the moon landing for example. I also included one sample taken off of my answering machine. I’m pretty sure it was case of mistaken identity—“Dave” is a common name, after all. I actually entered “Spin the Wheel” in the Austin Songwriter’s Guild competition. I didn’t hear back.
