2007 Year-end Review
Broch started 1st grade at Grandview Hills Elementary and loves his teacher. He and Dave are active in Cub Scouts. Jen is PTA Treasurer. Honestly, who saw that coming? Like Dave said back in 1999: “Having kids isn’t to change us at all.” Dave & Broch are still part of Hill Country Kart Club—Dave is primarily Broch’s chief mechanic, and loving it. It’s more relaxing, broch is winning more, and the two get to spend more time talking as they review racing strategy and tune Broch’s kart.
Dave is really enjoying his consulting in our business: in July, in fact while we were on the beach, the business literally took off. Maybe we should spend more time on the beach. Jen is having fun working part-time as personal assistant for the Jerry Jeff Walker organization.
Broch continued guitar lessons all year, culminating in a fall recital in which he played duets with his teacher of Marche Slav by Tchaikovsky and Habanera from the opera “Carmen.
During 2007, Dave’s grandmother passed away: we all miss her. In her late nineties, she was still a Red Cross volunteer.
As in years past, we spent a lot of time with friends, something we are all very thankful for. We started the year with a trip to Ruidoso in January. Along the way, Broch asked about cotton. (We grow a lot of that in Texas.) We saw a man working on a combine, so we just pulled over, introduced ourselves, and asked how everything worked. His son Jason—just a couple of years older than Broch—was working with him that day. Jason explained how everyting worked: you’ll see his picture in our 2007 gallery. We’ve since been back to visit them, proving once again that there are wonderful people that are happy to know you if you just take a minute to say “hello” and express a genuine interest in what they do.
Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday, and looking forward to 2008.
