The Red Shawl
This is the in-house potter that's teaching Broch to use the pottery wheel. We so appreciate what India and Trinetra Tours have made accessible to our son Broch.
We've arrived at the Tiger Moon Resort just outside of Ranthambore Tiger Reserve. It was a 4-hour drive from Jaipur.
Riklesh, the resident naturalist and orinthologist, has already given us our meal and safari schedule. Broch is ecstatic because they've told him there is a man here that will show how to make pottery and let him try it himself. It's very green here and the birds are singing beautiful harmonies together.
Lunch begiins in 1/2 an hour and then the first tiger safari stars an hour later.
Broch and I just finished dinner at the rooftop restaurant at our hotel. We enjoyed quite a fireworks display around the city due to the wedding season. All day we've been seeing painted elephants and jewel-bedecked white horses being sent out to pick up grooms. Then there were all the uniformed marching bands heading toward the bride's homes. And the elaborate draping and flowers at the various venues. Now the fireworks are entertaining the thousands of guests at the seemingly hundreds of celebrations.
One more early alarm... our train from Jodhpur to Jaipur is pulling out of the station at 5:55. The RAJASTHAN tours representative met us at the Ratan Ilas hotel and took us all the way to our seat on the train. He also had the hotel pack us breakfast to go. Our big luggage is in the trunk of our driver's car so that we've got less to juggle on the train. He left for Jaipur last night and will meet us at the station when we arrive. I'm glad we've got 2 nights at our next stop. It will give us a little more chill time.
We're on the highway to Jodhpur. Going the opposite direction is truck after truck with a military tank on the back. Our driver says they're heading to Jaiselmer out west - must be a base out there near the Pakistan border.
Relaxing before the camel safari begins.
2 of Broch's wishes have come true: sand and other kids to play with. These kids from California are staying in the tent next door.
Our jeeps have beat our luggage to the tents, but it's got water, plumbing and this lovely bed.
Met this village girl who let us pet her baby goat.
